Why I Am Running
  • George Washington believed that public service was the duty of all citizens
  • Town needs agricultural health: tick infestation is growing; dangerous vegetation spreading
  • Town needs to protect and foster agricultural lands - dairy, equine and bovine - and their survival.
  • Monitor development at the former Dutchess County Infirmary
  • Issue of ground water safety and well testing
  • The Town does not take adequate advantage of the numerous funding opportunities for the Millbrook Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
  • Improve liaison between Town and Village boards.
  • Review the equalization and assessment process.
Who is Ed Shaughnessy?
  • is a resident of the Village of Millbrook, Town of Washington for 28 years.
  • has been involved in the community at village, town and county levels
  • currently serves on Millbrook’s Architectural Advisory Committee
  • also serves on the town and village Ambulance Service Committee
  • has served for 12 years on the Millbrook Fire Department and Rescue Squad
  • worked with the Dutchess County Bureau of Fire in the development of its countywide Mass Casualty Incident protocols.
  • worked with the late distinguished mayor Mike Murphy and local pastors to secure funding for the Millbrook Church Alliance houses for seniors
  • served as acting justice of the Village of Millbrook court
  • was a member of the town of Washington Conservation Advisory Committee
  • was a board member and former president of the Dutchess County Historical Society
  • served on the Eleanor Roosevelt Val Kill Enhancing Racial Harmony Project
  • is currently working with the Mid-Hudson AntiSlavery Project, contributing to the proposed Freedom Trail in Dutchess County.
Background
  • directs his own firm, Education and Justice Services, consulting in policy and procedure issues for criminal justice, education, emergency medicine and law
  • has published extensively in these fields with books on the criminal law provisions of the U.S. Bill of Rights and articles on crime and justice in journals and international encyclopedias.
  • earned his doctorate in sociology and jurisprudence from the New School, now the New School University, NYC
  • holds Master of Arts degrees from Fordham University and Manhattan College
  • is Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Law from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York, based at The John Jay College of Criminal Justice at Lincoln Center N.Y. where he served as Chair of the Sociology Department
  • serves on the Board of Directors of the Eastern New York Chapter of the Fulbright Association developing exchanges for scholars, researchers and students to the U.S. and abroad.
